Haukipudas school

Haukipudas school is a comprehensive school for grades 1-9. The school is located in the northern part of the city of Oulu in northern Finland. With nearly one thousand students, it is one of largest schools in Oulu. About 50 pupils study at Keiska school (grades 1-4).

Our staff consists of ca. 80 teachers, 40 assistants and support staff. Principal Ari Isomaa is in charge of the school together with vice-principals Piia Bergman (grades 1-6) and Paula Nurmos (grades 7-9).

Haukipudas school participates in Liikkuva koulu and Unesco-ASP network among others. We have an active parent-teacher association, an established student council, and peer students who follow the guidelines of MLL (Mannerheim League for Child Welfare).

This blog is primarily a means of sharing our international experiences. Since 2017 we have actively participated in Erasmus+ projects. A Nordplus project started in 2021. In 2022, we applied for and were granted an Erasmus+ accreditation, valid until 2027. The objectives of our current Erasmus+ plan are to support the wellbeing of the whole school community, develop internal practices especially regarding shared leadership and peer learning among staff, and to strengthen the international competence of both staff and students.

You can find our past projects in the sidebar by the year. Most of the posts by individual attendants are in Finnish, but many include a summary in English.
In addition to our own projects we have received job shadowing visitors from for example Sweden, Latvia and the Czech republic. We also welcome Erasmus in schools visits by exchange students.
